When King Hezekiah heard it, he tore his clothes, covered himself with sackcloth, and went into Yahweh’s house.

ܘܫܕܪ ܠܐܠܝܩܝܡ ܪܒ ܒܝܬܐ ܘܠܫܒܢܐ ܣܦܪܐ ܘܠܣ̈ܒܐ ܕܟܗ̈ܢܐ ܟܕ ܡܟܣܝܢ ܣܩ̈ܐ ܠܘܬ ܐܫܥܝܐ ܢܒܝܐ ܒܪ ܐܡܘܨ

He sent Eliakim, who was over the household, Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.

ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܗܟܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܚܙܩܝܐ ܝܘܡܐ ܗܘ ܕܐܘܠܨܢܐ ܘܕܡܟܣܢܘܬܐ. ܘܕܪܘܓܙܐ ܝܘܡܢܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܡܛܝܘ ܚܒ̈ܠܐ ܕܒܢ̈ܝܐ ܘܠܝܬ ܚܝܠܐ ܒܝܠܕܬܐ

They said to him, “Hezekiah says, ‘Today is a day of trouble, of rebuke, and of rejection; for the children have come to the point of birth, and there is no strength to deliver them.

ܛܟ ܢܫܡܥ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܟ ܡ̈ܠܘܗܝ ܕܪܒ ܫܩ̈ܐ ܕܫܕܪܗ ܡܪܗ ܡܠܟܐ ܐܬܘܪܝܐ ܠܡܚܣܕܘ ܠܐܠܗܐ ܚܝܐ ܘܢܟܣܝܘܗܝ ܒܡ̈ܠܐ ܕܫܡܥ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܟ ܘܬܒܥܐ ܘܬܨܠܐ ܥܠ ܫܪܟܐ ܕܐܫܬܚܪܘ
Tk nshme mry' 'lhk mlwhy drb shq' dshdrh mrh mlk' 'thwry' lmkhsdw l'lh' khy' wnksywhy bml' dshme mry' 'lhk wthbe' wthtsl' el shrk' d'shthkhrw
It may be Yahweh your God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to defy the living God, and will rebuke the words which Yahweh your God has heard. Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.’”

ܘܐܬܘ ܥܒ̈ܕܘܗܝ ܕܡܠܟܐ ܚܙܩܝܐ ܠܘܬ ܐܫܥܝܐ ܢܒܝܐ

So the servants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܐܫܥܝܐ ܗܟܢܐ ܬܐܡܪܘܢ ܠܡܪܟܘܢ ܗܟܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܐ ܬܕܚܠ ܡܢ ܡ̈ܠܐ ܕܫܡܥܬ ܕܓܕܦܘ ܩܕܡܝ ܐܝ̈ܙܓܕܘܗܝ ܕܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܬܘܪ

Isaiah said to them, “Tell your master this: ‘Yahweh says, “Don’t be afraid of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.

ܗܐ ܝܗܒ ܐܢܐ ܒܗ ܪܘܚܐ ܘܢܫܡܥ ܛܒܐ ܘܢܗܦܘܟ ܠܐܪܥܗ ܘܐܪܡܝܘܗܝ ܒܚܪܒܐ ܒܐܪܥܗ

Behold, I will put a spirit in him, and he will hear news, and will return to his own land. I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.”’”

ܘܗܦܟ ܪܒ ܫܩ̈ܐ ܘܐܫܟܚ ܠܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܬܘܪ ܟܕ ܡܬܟܬܫ ܥܠ ܠܒܢܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܫܡܥ ܕܫܩܠ ܡܢ ܠܟܝܫ

So Rabshakeh returned and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah; for he had heard that he had departed from Lachish.

ܘܫܡܥ ܥܠ ܬܪܗܩ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܟܘܫ ܕܢܦܩ ܠܡܬܟܬܫܘ ܥܡܗ ܘܗܦܟ ܘܫܕܪ ܐܝ̈ܙܓܕܐ ܠܘܬ ܚܙܩܝܐ

When he heard it said of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, “Behold, he has come out to fight against you,” he sent messengers again to Hezekiah, saying,

ܗܟܢܐ ܬܐܡܪܘܢ ܠܚܙܩܝܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܠܐ ܢܛܥܝܟ ܐܠܗܟ ܕܬܟܝܠ ܐܢܬ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܢܬ ܕܠܐ ܡܫܬܠܡܐ ܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܘܗܝ ܕܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܬܘܪ

“Tell Hezekiah king of Judah this: ‘Don’t let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.

ܗܐ ܐܢܬ ܫܡܥܬ ܟܠ ܕܥܒܕܘ ܡ̈ܠܟܐ ܕܐܬܘܪ ܠܟܠܗܝܢ ܐܪ̈ܥܬܐ ܘܐܚܪܒܘ ܐ̈ܢܝܢ ܘܐܢܬ ܡܬܦܨܐ ܐܢܬ

Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly. Will you be delivered?

ܕܠܡܐ ܦܨܝܘ ܐ̈ܠܗܝܗܘܢ ܕܥܡ̈ܡܐ ܐܢܫ ܐܪܥܗ ܕܚܪܒܘ ܐ̈ܒܗܝ ܠܓܘܙܢ ܘܠܚܪܢ ܘܠܪܨܦ ܘܠܒܢ̈ܝ ܥܕܢ ܕܒܕܠܣܪ

Have the gods of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed—Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the children of Eden who were in Telassar?

ܐܝܟܐ ܗܘ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܚܡܬ ܘܡܠܟܐ ܕܪܦܕ ܘܡܠܟܐ ܕܩܪܝܬܐ ܣܦܪܘܝܡ ܘܕܢܥ ܘܕܥܘܐ
'yk' hw mlk' dkhmth wmlk' drpd wmlk' dqryth' sprwym wdne wdew'
Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah?’”

ܘܢܣܒ ܚܙܩܝܐ ܐܓܪ̈ܬܐ ܡܢ ܐܝܕܐ ܕܐܝ̈ܙܓܕܐ ܘܩܪܐ ܐ̈ܢܝܢ ܘܣܠܩ ܠܒܝܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܦܪܣ ܐ̈ܢܝܢ ܚܙܩܝܐ ܐܓܪ̈ܬܐ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ

Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it. Then Hezekiah went up to Yahweh’s house, and spread it before Yahweh.

ܘܨܠܝ ܚܙܩܝܐ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܚܝܠܬܢܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܝܬܒ ܥܠ ܟܪ̈ܘܒܐ ܐܢܬ ܗܘ ܐܠܗܐ ܒܠܚܘܕܝܟ ܥܠ ܟܠܗܝܢ ܡ̈ܠܟܘܬܐ ܕܐܪܥܐ ܐܢܬ ܥܒܕܬ ܫܡܝܐ ܘܐܪܥܐ

Hezekiah prayed before Yahweh, and said, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, who are enthroned above the cherubim, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.

ܨܠܝ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܕܢܟ ܘܫܡܥ ܦܬܚ ܡܪܝܐ ܥܝܢ̈ܝܟ ܘܚܙܝ ܘܫܡܥ ܟܠܗܝܢ ܡ̈ܠܘܗܝ ܕܣܢܚܪܝܒ ܕܫܠܚ ܠܡܚܣܕܘ ܠܐܠܗܐ ܚܝܐ

Incline your ear, Yahweh, and hear. Open your eyes, Yahweh, and see. Hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to defy the living God.

ܫܪܝܪܐܝܬ ܡܪܝܐ ܚܪܒܘ ܡ̈ܠܟܐ ܕܐܬܘܪ ܠܟܘܠܗܝܢ ܐܪ̈ܥܬܐ ܘܐܪܥܗܘܢ

Truly, Yahweh, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands,

ܘܐ̈ܠܗܝܗܘܢ ܐܘܩܕܘ ܒܢܘܪܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܠܐ ܗܘܘ ܐ̈ܠܗܐ ܐܠܐ ܥܒܕ ܐ̈ܝܕܝܐ ܕܒܢ̈ܝ ܐܢܫܐ ܕܩܝܣܐ ܘܕܟܐܦܐ ܘܐܘܩܕܘ ܐܢܘܢ
w'lhyhwn 'wqdw bnwr' mTl dl' hww 'lh' 'l' ebd 'ydy' dbny 'nsh' dqys' wdk'p' w'wqdw 'nwn
and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone. Therefore they have destroyed them.

ܘܗܫܐ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܢ ܦܪܘܩܝܢ ܡܢ ܐ̈ܝܕܘܗܝ ܕܢܕܥܢ ܟܠܗܝܢ ܡ̈ܠܟܘܬܐ ܕܐܪܥܐ ܕܐܢܬ ܗܘ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܒܠܚܘܕܝܟ

Now therefore, Yahweh our God, save us, I beg you, out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, Yahweh, are God alone.”

ܘܫܠܚ ܐܫܥܝܐ ܒܪ ܐܡܘܨ ܠܚܙܩܝܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܗܟܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܟܠ ܕܨܠܝܬ ܩܕܡܝ ܥܠ ܣܢܚܪܝܒ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܬܘܪ ܫܡܥܬ

Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, says ‘You have prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, and I have heard you.

ܗܢܐ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܕܐܡܪ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܡܪܝܐ ܫܝܛܐ ܠܟ ܘܡܡܝܩܐ ܒܟ ܒܬܘܠܬܐ ܒܪܬ ܨܗܝܘܢ ܘܡܢܝܕܐ ܪܝܫܗ ܒܬܪܟ ܒܪܬ ܐܘܪܫܠܡ

This is the word that Yahweh has spoken concerning him: ‘The virgin daughter of Zion has despised you and ridiculed you. The daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.

ܠܡ̇ܢ ܚܣܕܬ ܘܩܕܡ ܡ̇ܢ ܓܕܦܬ. ܘܥܠ ܡ̇ܢ ܐܪܝܡܬ ܩܠܟ. ܐܪܝܡܬ ܥܝܢܝ̈ܟ ܠܡܪܘܡܐ ܥܠ ܩܕܝܫܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ .
lmn khsdth wqdm mn gdpth wel mn 'rymth qlk 'rymth eynyk lmrwm' el qdysh' d'ysryl
Whom have you defied and blasphemed? Against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel!

ܘܒܐܝܕܐ ܕܐܝ̈ܙܓܕܝܟ ܚܣܕܬ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܘܐܡܪܬ ܕܒܣܘܓܐ ܕܡܪ̈ܟܒܬܝ ܐܢܐ ܐܣܩ ܠܪܘܡܐ ܕܛܘܪ̈ܐ ܘܠܫ̈ܦܘܠܘܗܝ ܕܠܒܢܢ ܘܐܦܣܘܩ ܩ̈ܘܡܬܐ ܕܐܪ̈ܙܘܗܝ ܘܓܒ̈ܝܐ ܕܫܪ̈ܘܝܢܘܗܝ ܘܐܥܘܠ ܠܪܘܡܐ ܕܣܟܗ ܕܥܒܐ ܕܟܪܡܠܐ

By your messengers, you have defied the Lord, and have said, “With the multitude of my chariots, I have come up to the height of the mountains, to the innermost parts of Lebanon, and I will cut down its tall cedars and its choice cypress trees; and I will enter into his farthest lodging place, the forest of his fruitful field.

ܐܢܐ ܐܚܦܘܪ ܘܐܫܬܐ ܡ̈ܝܐ ܘܐܘܒܫ ܒܦܪ̈ܣܬܐ ܕܪ̈ܟܫܝ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܢܗܪ̈ܘܬܐ ܥܫ̈ܝܢܐ

I have dug and drunk strange waters, and I will dry up all the rivers of Egypt with the sole of my feet.”

ܠܐ ܫܡܥܬ ܕܡܢ ܪܘܚܩܐ ܠܗ ܥܒܕܬ ܘܡܢ ܝܘܡ̈ܬܐ ܩܕܡ̈ܝܐ ܠܗ ܥܬܕܬ ܘܗܫܐ ܐܝܬܝܬܗ ܕܬܗܘܐ ܠܚܘܪܒܐ ܘܠܨܕܝܐ ܐܝܟ ܡܕܝܢ̈ܬܐ ܥܫ̈ܝܢܬܐ
l' shmeth dmn rwkhq' lh ebdth wmn ywmth' qdmy' lh ethdth whsh' 'ythythh dthhw' lkhwrb' wltsdy' 'yk mdynth' eshynth'
Haven’t you heard how I have done it long ago, and formed it of ancient times? Now I have brought it to pass, that it should be yours to lay waste fortified cities into ruinous heaps.

ܕܝܬܒܝ̈ܗܝܢ ܙܥܪ ܚܝܠܗܘܢ ܐܬܬܒܪܘ ܘܒܗܬܘ ܘܗܘܘ ܐܝܟ ܥܣܒܐ ܕܚܩܠܐ ܘܐܝܟ ܝܘܪܩܐ ܕܬܕܐܐ ܘܐܝܟ ܥܡܝܪܐ ܕܐܓܪܐ ܘܐܝܟ ܒܘܚܫܝܢܐ ܩܕܡ ܩܝܡܬܐ
dythbyhyn zer khylhwn 'ththbrw wbhthw whww 'yk esb' dkhql' w'yk ywrq' dthd'' w'yk emyr' d'gr' w'yk bwkhshyn' qdm qymth'
Therefore their inhabitants had little power. They were dismayed and confounded. They were like the grass of the field and like the green herb, like the grass on the housetops and like grain blasted before it has grown up.

ܡܘܬܒܟ ܘܡܥܠܟ ܘܡܦܩܟ ܝܕܥ ܐܢܐ ܘܕܐܬܪܘܪܒܬ ܥܠܝ

But I know your sitting down, your going out, your coming in, and your raging against me.

ܥܠ ܕܐܡܪܚܬ ܘܐܬܪܘܪܒܬ ܥܠܝ ܘܓܘܕܦܟ ܣܠܩ ܒܐ̈ܕܢܝ ܐܪܡܐ ܩܠܕܐ ܒܢܚܝܪܟ ܘܒܠܡܐ ܒܣ̈ܦܘܬܟ ܘܐܗܦܟܟ ܒܐܘܪܚܐ ܕܐܬܝܬ ܒܗ

Because of your raging against me, and because your arrogance has come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.’

ܘܗܕܐ ܐܬܐ ܬܗܘܐ ܠܟ ܐܟܠ ܐܢܬ ܫܢܬܐ ܗܕܐ ܟܐܬܐ ܘܫܢܬܐ ܕܬܪ̈ܬܝܢ ܟܬ ܟܐܬܐ ܘܫܢܬܐ ܬܠܝܬܝܬܐ ܙܪܘܥܘ ܘܚܨܘܕܘ ܘܨܘܒܘ ܟܪ̈ܡܐ ܘܐܟܘܠܘ ܦܐܪ̈ܝܗܘܢ

“This will be the sign to you: This year, you will eat that which grows of itself, and in the second year that which springs from that; and in the third year sow and reap, and plant vineyards and eat their fruit.

ܘܢܘܣܦܘܢ ܫܪܟܐ ܕܒܝܬ ܝܗܘܕܐ ܕܐܫܬܚܪܘ ܫܕܝܢ ܥܩܪܐ ܠܬܚܬ ܘܥܒܕܝܢ ܦܐܪ̈ܐ ܠܥܠ
wnwspwn shrk' dbyth yhwd' d'shthkhrw shdyn eqr' lthkhth webdyn p'r' lel
The remnant that has escaped of the house of Judah will again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.

ܡܛܠ ܕܡܢ ܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܢܦܘܩ ܫܪܟܢܐ ܘܦܘܠܛܐ ܡܢ ܛܘܪܐ ܕܨܗܝܘܢ ܩܢܐܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܚܝܠܬܢܐ ܬܥܒܕ ܗܕܐ

For out of Jerusalem a remnant will go out, and out of Mount Zion those who shall escape. Yahweh’s zeal will perform this.

ܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܗܟܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܥܠ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܬܘܪ ܠܐ ܢܥܘܠ ܠܩܪܝܬܐ ܗܕܐ ܘܠܐ ܢܫܕܐ ܬܡܢ ܓܐܪܐ ܘܠܐ ܢܩܪܡܝܗ ܒܣܟܪ̈ܐ ܘܠܐ ܢܟܡܢ ܥܠܝܗ ܟܡܐ̈ܢܐ
mTl hn' hkn' 'mr mry' el mlk' d'thwr l' newl lqryth' hd' wl' nshd' thmn g'r' wl' nqrmyh bskr' wl' nkmn elyh km'n'
“Therefore Yahweh says concerning the king of Assyria, ‘He will not come to this city, nor shoot an arrow there. He will not come before it with shield, nor cast up a mound against it.

ܐܠܐ ܒܐܘܪܚܐ ܕܐܬܐ ܒܗ ܢܗܦܘܟ ܘܠܩܪܝܬܐ ܗܕܐ ܠܐ ܢܥܘܠ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ
'l' b'wrkh' d'th' bh nhpwk wlqryth' hd' l' newl 'mr mry'
He will return the same way that he came, and he will not come to this city,’ says Yahweh.

ܘܐܓܢ ܥܠ ܩܪܝܬܐ ܗܕܐ ܘܐܦܪܩܝܗ ܡܛܠܬܝ ܘܡܛܠ ܕܘܝܕ ܥܒܕܝ

‘For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake and for my servant David’s sake.’”
